Brazil is on track to win the Nobel Prize next year for its fight against erectile dysfunction (ED) — a significant milestone in its history.
But Brazil’s Nobel Committee says the country needs to take action now to ensure it continues to win the award, with a call for its representatives to “educate and inform” the public.
The Committee, led by Dr. Jorge Puente, a professor of pharmacology at the University of California San Francisco, is working on a plan to promote awareness of the drug and its side effects.
The panel will also consider ways to promote the medicine’s safety in relation to sexual dysfunction and to protect people who are at risk.
Dr. Puente is an associate professor of medicine at the University of California San Francisco and the head of the U. S. Center for Sexual Medicine.
In 2015, the Committee was formed to take over the U. research on the most common side effects of sildenafil citrate, commonly known as Viagra.
